Do you remember what it was like to be a kid and idolize superheroes? You dreamed of what you would do if you had their powers, what your super suit would look like, and who your squad would be. Having the life of a superhero sounded exciting: stopping villains, saving people, being praised for your powers. What kid wouldn’t love that life? Or if we’re asking honest questions, what adult wouldn’t love that life?
Though we have grown up a bit (most of us at least), we still have an innate desire for adventure. There is a draw to the unbelievable and exciting. We want to be different, recognized, and adored. We want to be super. Settling for normal sounded so ridiculous as a child, but we as adults we accept normal as if it’s our only option.
I have exciting news for you: you were not created for normal, and that longing inside of you to be super is God-given, and when we make room for Him in our lives, it will also be God fulfilled!
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.” John 14:12
In the scripture above, Jesus was declaring that anyone who believed in Him was capable of doing the works He did (and greater!) because the Holy Spirit lives in us. Do you remember the works of Jesus? Raised the dead, healed the lame, opened blind eyes, caused severed ears to reattach, and defeated our enemy. If you are reading this and you believe in Jesus, your life isn’t supposed to be anywhere near normal. Your life is supposed to be super and filled with the supernatural. This fact is not based on your physical strength, or how tight your spandex suit can be, but it is made alive in you because a powerful spirit dwells within you.
If your kids have attended NCC in the last six weeks, this is the message we have been sowing into them: we serve a super God, who wants to do supernatural things in and through us. We want your kids to grow up knowing confidently that their desire to be super is God given and God fulfilled, and that they are equipped to live this life the way Jesus did—far from normal. We’ve taught your kids how God wants to use them in mighty ways to fulfill His purpose, how God strengthens them and empowers them to do His will, and that they have the power to overcome their enemies because no one can defeat our God—the ultimate superhero.
